Mary Ann Aronsohn's professional interest in stepfamilies initially arose from her first-hand experience as a parent and stepparent. Impressed by the complexity and difficulty of stepparenting, she was surprised by the lack of readily available information and support systems aimed at helping stepfamily members. This lack of support and information is one of her particular concerns,  given that demographers predicted that stepfamilies would be the most prevalent type of family in the US by this year, 2010. The combination of Ms. Aronsohn's personal experience with her awareness of the great need for help for increasing numbers of stepfamilies has fostered Ms. Aronsohn's expertise as a stepfamily therapist. She has become determined to make a significant contribution in this increasingly important area.

Ms. Aronsohn writes on the subject, speaks publicly regarding stepfamily concerns, and includes people with stepfamily issues in her private practice. Stepfamily knowledge informs her work in the family law arena as well.
